Moose remained patiently by his owner’s hospital bed, waiting for his ‘dad’ to return. But his ‘dad’ wouldn’t be coming back: he had passed away.
Since his owner’s death, Moose, the three-year-old Labrador cross, is temporarily being cared for by the Eleventh Hour Rescue Kennel in Randolph, New Jersey. According to his carers, Moose is taking the death of his owner “pretty hard”.
In a bid to find the loyal dog a new family, NorthStar Pet Rescue posted on Facebook about Moose’s sad situation, accompanied by a photo of him waiting beside the empty bed.
“Please help Moose find a new home and a family for him to love. He’s a sweet happy boy by nature. He just needs people to help his heart heal,” the Facebook post read.
Moose is described as a loving dog who adores children and adults but may be a little too fond of cats. “Let’s mend this broken heart, together,” the animal shelter writes.
In just two days, the post was shared 2,500 times and generated an outpouring of support.
Yesterday, NorthStar Pet Rescue announced that several applications to adopt Moose had been received.
